The First Family
Genesis 4:1-16
1 And the ADAM knew Chavah his ISHAH.
She became pregnant.
She gave birth to Cain, and she said:
(Option 1) “I have created an ISH (man) with the help of Yahweh.”
(Option 2) “I have created an ISH (man) in the presence of Yahweh.”
(Option 3) “I have created an ISH (man) equally with Yahweh.”
2 And she continued to bear his brother Abel.
Abel became a shepherd of flocks.
Cain became a tiller of the ground.
3 At the appointed time, Cain brought an offering from the fruit of the ground to Yahweh.
4 Abel also brought an offering from the firstlings of his flock and from their fat.
And Yahweh looked towards Abel and to his offering.
5 And towards Cain and his offering He did not look.
Cain burned exceedingly great and his face fell.
6 And Yahweh said to Cain: “Why are you burning? Why has your face fallen?
7 Surely, if you do YTIV (TOV) you shall be accepted;
but if you do not do YTIV (TOV) sin is crouching at the door;
and its desire is toward you; but you should rule over it.”
8 Cain talked with Abel his brother.
And they were in the field.
Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
9 Yahweh said to Cain: “Where is Abel your brother?”
And Cain answered: “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 Yahweh said: “What have you done?
The voice of your brother’s bloods cries to me from the ground.
11 Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s bloods from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. You shall be a vagabond and fugitive on the earth.”
13 Cain said to Yahweh,
(Option 1) “My sin is too great to bear!”
(Option 2) “My guilt is too great to bear!”
(Option 3) “My punishment is too great to bear!”
14 “Lo, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face
I shall be hidden; and I shall be a vagabond and fugitive on the earth.
And it will be anyone who finds me will kill me.”
15 Yahweh said to him: “If anyone kills Cain, sevenfold he shall be avenged.”
Yahweh set a mark on Cain, so that anyone finding him should not kill him.
16 Cain went out from the presence of Yahweh and lived in the land of Nod east of Eden.
